Daniel Rathburn and Lura Higley were married 21 May 1812 in Rutland, Ohio. Daniel was 26 and Lura was 18. They had come to Ohio 9 years earlier. Lura had known Daniel all her life as their families lived near each other in Granby, Connecticut. Daniel's mother, Muriel Deziah Rice, was the sister of Phylenda Rice, Lura's aunt by marriage to her mother's brother.

The Rathburns had a daughter Deziah Lucretia on 2 Sep 1813, a son, Daniel C. Rathburn on 8 July 1820
and another daughter Frances A. on 27 Dec 1822. Lura's father Joel Higley died 26 April 1823. The History of Meigs County, Ohio, says that they had a farm in Rutland, Ohio and that Daniel was Justice of the Peace and taught school, but doesn't mention his being a doctor.

Sometime Noah Guymon arrived in Meigs County, Ohio and he and Lura left Ohio together around 1830. Seventeen-year-old Deziah either left with them or came later to live with her mother. Franklin Noah Guymon was born to Noah and Lura in 1829 before they left Ohio and came to Illinois with them as well.

Daniel Clark Rathburn, Lura's first husband, died 22 Sept 1855.
